MATSOL Currents Submission Guidelines

Type of Submissions

  • Feature Articles (1200-1500 words) related to teacher education, research, professional development, program administration, sociocultural issues, etc.
  • Brief Reports (500-900 words), such as data analysis, reports on conference presentations and papers.
  • Personal Accounts (500-700 words), such as stories and tips from the classroom and successful activities.
  • Book or Material Review (400-750 words), reviews of materials such as teacher resource books, textbooks, apps, websites, software.

Possible topics

  • One- or two-page reports on anything that's happening in our educational programs or professional groups: Keep us informed about what's happening in your part of the ESOL world!

  • Suggestions for the ESL, ESOL, EFL, EIL, SLIFE, Bilingual, Two Way/Dual Immersion, or Sheltered English Instruction classroom

  • Adult literacy; language and literacy for the workplace

  • Parent, family and community involvement

  • Teacher education/Professional learning (from the point of view of the teacher educator OR the teacher participating in professional learning)

  • Advocacy issues concerning students or educators

  • Issues of current concern, such as SLIFE

  • Research on language education

  • Sociocultural issues

  • Experiences of students in our programs

Submission Deadlines

  • October 15 (Fall/Winter issue)
  • April 15 (Spring/Summer issue).

Review Procedure
Articles are reviewed following a double blind procedure, meaning that the reviewers do not know the identity of the author and the author does not know the identity of the reviewers.

No manuscript is guaranteed publication, even if it is commissioned. Submissions may be accepted without revision, returned with requested edits, or declined pending substantive revision. However, if we think your article will be of interest to our readers, then we will work with you to get it into shape for publication.

Required for Submission

  • File Format: Microsoft Word document, or a compatible format, with no special formatting.
  • Contact Information (not for publication): Your email address, mailing address, and a daytime phone number.
  • Biographical Statement (for publication, exactly as you would like it to appear in Currents): Your full name, affiliation, an email address, a short biographical statement (30 words maximum), and a head shot (optional).
